Giant Steps School
A specialized educational environment supporting autistic students from ages 4 to 21 through individualized learning, therapeutic services and meaningful inclusion opportunities.

A Vision Made Possible Through Community Support
Officially inaugurated on September 14, 2023, the Giant Steps Centre was made possible through an ambitious capital campaign led by the Giant Steps Foundation and supported by the Quebec business and philanthropic communities, generous donors and government partners.
Through the sustained efforts of the campaign cabinet and the generosity of the community, more than $53 million was raised to build the Centre. This included a contribution of more than $18 million from the Government of Quebec.
This collective investment created a purpose-built Centre that reflects Giant Steps’ vision of a society in which autistic individuals are understood, supported and fully included at every stage of life.
A Centre Designed Around Autistic Needs
Every aspect of the Giant Steps Centre was carefully planned with the diverse sensory, communication and learning needs of autistic individuals in mind.
The layout, lighting, acoustics, materials and functionality of each space were selected to promote comfort, accessibility, independence and well-being. Flexible learning environments, transition spaces and specialized facilities allow programs and supports to be adapted to individual strengths and needs.
The result is a welcoming environment where autistic children, youth and adults can learn, develop skills, build relationships and prepare for the future.
Architecture Inspired by Nature
The Centre’s architecture was designed to create a sense of calm, warmth and belonging. Throughout the building, earthy colours, warm tones, natural materials and abundant light contribute to a welcoming and grounded atmosphere.
The design balances open, shared environments with quieter spaces for retreat. From the flow between rooms to the finishes and visual details, every architectural choice supports sensory well-being and helps individuals navigate the Centre comfortably and confidently.
