Neurodiversity and Bullying Toolkit

Giant Steps developed the bilingual online Neurodiversity and Bullying Toolkit to help prevent and address the bullying of autistic students in elementary and secondary schools. Created with financial support from the Ensemble contre l’intimidation program of Quebec’s Ministère de la Famille, the toolkit is intended for school staff, autistic and non-autistic students, and families.

The toolkit includes guides tailored to school staff, parents and students, as well as seven engaging video modules exploring neurodiversity, autism, bullying, social stigma, allyship and effective intervention. The resources provide practical strategies for recognizing bullying, understanding the needs and motivations of those involved, preventing harmful situations and responding appropriately.

A collection of adaptable educational tools supports students with diverse language and communication needs. Illustrated social scenarios, one-page reminder sheets and a communication board help students understand key concepts, identify whether they are experiencing, witnessing or engaging in bullying, communicate what happened and determine what to do next.

By giving school communities accessible tools and a shared understanding of bullying and autism, the initiative helps create safer, more respectful environments where every student can feel understood, supported and included.
