Pointe-à-Callière

The Giant Steps Resource and Training Centre works with Pointe-à-Callière and the Association québécoise pour le loisir des personnes handicapées on Pointe-à-Callière for All, an initiative designed to increase accessibility, inclusion and cultural participation at the Museum.

Giant Steps developed autism-focused training for Pointe-à-Callière teams, along with five training modules offered to new employees. These resources help staff better understand sensory and communication differences and provide informed, respectful support to autistic visitors.

The partnership has also contributed to practical visitor resources, including sensory bags containing noise-reducing headphones, light-blocking glasses, sensory tools and a pictogram communication board. A sensory map and visit-preparation guide help visitors understand what to expect and plan their experience according to their needs.

By combining staff training with practical accessibility tools, Giant Steps and Pointe-à-Callière are creating a more welcoming, predictable and enjoyable museum experience for autistic visitors and their families.
